The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has welcomed James Dolarii as the new Chief Executive Officer. His appointment, following a year-long vacancy, is a significant step for SICCI in promoting and advocating for the private sector.
Dolarii brings a strong background in public diplomacy and stakeholder engagement, with nearly nine years of experience, including a previous tenure at SICCI from 2012 to 2016. He holds a BA in Public Management and an MBA. His expertise spans the private sector, donors, NGOs, and government projects.
SICCI Chairlady Namoi Kaluae expressed confidence in his leadership, strategic vision, and passion aligning with SICCI’s values and goals.
Dolarii aims to enhance membership engagement, drive new initiatives, and promote economic growth. Former CEO Natalina Hong praised his capability and passion, affirming his potential to lead SICCI into its next phase of growth and success.
The Australia Pacific Islands Business Council (APIBC) congratulates Dolarii on his appointment. APIBC has long been associated with SICCI and will co-host the 13th Australia Solomon Islands Business Forum with SICCI in Honiara in September.
APIBC caught up with the new CEO soon after his appointment for his thoughts on his new role and the forthcoming forum. Excerpts:
On joining SICCI as CEO: I’m thrilled to re-join SICCI as CEO. This role is a dream come true, allowing me to contribute to Solomon Islands’ economic development. I look forward to working with the board, staff, and private sector members to build on past achievements and foster partnerships with the government, key stakeholders, and donor partners to create a supportive business environment.
On plans and priorities for SICCI: As SICCI’s leader, my priority is to strengthen partnerships with the Solomon Islands Government and key stakeholders. It’s vital to ensure the private sector’s voice is included in national policy design and development.
On the potential for Australian businesses in Solomon Islands: I see immense potential for expanding the Solomon Islands-Australia relationship across all economic sectors. SICCI will continue to enhance the business community here, facilitating trade relationships and the exchange of experience and ideas. Sectors like energy, agriculture, tourism, and tuna are crucial for economic sustainability, growth, and job creation in Solomon Islands.
On why businesses should participate in the forthcoming Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum: The Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum is a key event where issues are discussed, solutions crafted, and recommendations made to foster business growth and expansion. Businesses in Solomon Islands should seize the opportunity to be part of SICCI. Joining SICCI offers access to growth programs and networking opportunities. Our events provide a platform for sharing and exchanging business ideas and networking, which are invaluable for growth.
APIBC President Simon Gorman said, “The APIBC congratulates James Dolarii and SICCI on the appointment. APIBC is excited to be co-convening with the SICCI the 13th Australia Fiji Solomon Islands Business Forum in Honiara and believe there will be plenty of fruitful discussions and outcomes building on last year’s Brisbane conference. We look forward to seeing a large attendance at this important business event.”
